RSVP & Attend the Virtual Holiday Harness Hangout with Special Guests Canopy Cat Rescue for a Chance to Win Prizes!

This week on Travel Cat Tuesday, we're featuring our special guests for the Virtual Holiday Harness Hangout, CANOPY CAT RESCUE!

The rescue was created in 2009 after discovering how very difficult it was for people to find help for their cats stuck high in trees. The rescue works on a donations-only basis, because it’s their mission and passion to rescue any cat stuck in any tree regardless of their families financial situation. The Canopy Cat Rescue team works in Washington, USA!

We also asked Tom and Shaun from Canopy Cat Rescue about their experiences with the organization, and their answers are here below:

How did Tom & Shaun start CCR?

CCR was started in 2009 after Tom and Shaun realized the need for this kind of service, especially in the PNW.  Both of the guys are huge cat lovers and really felt like this work was more of a calling than a planned business.

How would you explain your rescue process to someone who has never heard of cat tree rescues?

The guys use traditional tree climbing techniques to access the tree canopy, then use their acquired cat behavior knowledge to build trust with the scared felines.  Once the trust is made, the cats are secured in a net or bag for the descent down.

What are some commonalities between the situations of the cats that the team rescues?

The average time the cats spend in the tree is around three days; many cats are between 6 months and 2 years old; most of the trees the cats are in are Douglas firs; many people think that all cats will come down on their own; most cats are true to their temperament whether stuck in a tree or on the ground; most cats are treed trying to escape predators, (usually coyotes).

What are 3-4 tips from Tom/Shaun can give about how to make sure your cat stays safe and doesn't get stuck in a tree?

Keep the cats and trees separated; keep cats safe from predators; don't allow cats to roam without supervision; build catios for any outdoor time; use a cat backpack or leash train your cat.

What do you love most about being part of Canopy Cat Rescue?

Almost every rescue brings so much joy to not only the CCR guys, but also the owners. It's especially nice to hold the cats and it feels really great handing them back to their owners.

Make sure to RSVP & attend the upcoming Virtual Holiday Harness Hangout to meet Canopy Cat Rescue and hear more from them about keeping your kitty safe!
