This is the best bagpack I’ve had I’ve been taking my cat to the vets in it it’s roomy excellent quality ,and the weight distributes on your back perfectly , it’s deep inside so perfect for Ragdoll cats I’m looking forward to taking my cat on adventures in it in warmer weather
Seems very sturdy, especially compared to the cheaper, flimsier backpack I tried in the past as well as previous soft sided regular carriers I’ve used. Tons of padding for both cat and owner. My 20lb big boy can sit and lay down comfortably (which I was a bit concerned about when ordering; there aren’t many pics of larger cats reviewed). I hope these can help other owners judge if their furbabies will fit. I can’t speak of the longevity yet but I don’t see any reason it shouldn’t last. When compared to his regular hard shell carrier (which I struggle to carry to and from the vet) this seems like it will be much easier and more comfortable to lug his chunky self around. Hopefully it will be a breeze at the airport for our upcoming move.
We have a 14-yr-old cat. She's small and she and her sibs were all 'scaredy cats'. Now that she's an only child, she gets attention and she has blossomed, but she isn't like the cats in the videos on this site. We used to have a cat like that, who would go anywhere and do anything. That's not our Sugar. We are planning a move to another state, and it involves long car trips back and forth, staying in strange new places, and we intended to find a way to keep her with us at all times. So we don't eat in restaurants. Etc. Having a cat backpack was meant to give us security in transporting her back and forth from the car, but also to allow us to take her anywhere we go, so she doesn't feel abandoned in a strange place. However, I was uncertain how she'd take to a backpack.
I researched a lot, and this pack was the most expensive one I found, but it also seemed to be the best engineering and construction. Reviews on other packs said they were uncomfortable to carry, and cats got out. I decided to spring for quality and comfort, and I do not regret it. I love the way the zippers lock to prevent escape. I haven't used the backup clip I can snap her leash onto, but I like that feature a lot. Most of all, the construction and design make it easy to carry and durable. It's a perfect size for her. I believe that she regards it as a sort of safe house, a barrier that protects her from what's outside, but allows her to see. Our cat with very little training learned to regard the backpack as a safe zone. I put treats in it and slowly acclimated her to it being a safe place, then played in and near it with her, then put her in briefly, always giving her a treat afterwards. Definitely take time to watch the training videos here; they help. Yesterday, three weeks after getting the pack, we took her on a half mile walk from our house to the nearest main road, a trip through the trees. She was very calm and interested. When a neighbor came by on his riding mower, which is very loud, she was fine. She's heard it over and over, but this time, it was close, and yet, she was fine. She is slow to get out of the pack, indicating she isn't traumatized being in it. So within 3 weeks, a senior cat with a family history of fearfulness who was never in a car before our previous move two years ago has adapted well to using the pack in strange and scary situations.
We got a harness and leash for her on this site as well, because on our last move, which was across country and unplanned, I got a harness that really wasn't adequate for the move, but we were rushed and I had no time to research. I really like the one we got here. She has a strange body type, as she was the runt of the litter, but also has a condition that causes her to have edema in her mid-torso, making it way big for her body size, so we had to get her the medium size harness, which is designed for bigger cats than she is. Yet, the design is good enough that she cannot easily get out of it. She doesn't like wearing it, but the few times I've trained her, she will get to playing while wearing it and doesn't throw a hissy fit about it, though she obviously doesn't like it. I think with time, she will get used to it. Most of all, it seems to be a design that will keep her safe.
It seems like you're always asked too soon to review a purchase, anywhere, but we are in a crunch about our move, and so I was chafing to get the pack delivered so we could use it on our first trip out of state. I had to train her in one week to accept it. I can honestly say that for us, it's been easy to acclimate her to it, in spite of her lack of experience with travel and her fearful personality. So I feel that any cat can learn to enjoy the pack if properly introduced to it. Watch the training video, make it fun, do a small amount daily, and give a favorite treat after each session. Make it fun and happy. I love the backpack and intend to use it a lot. It looks like she make blossom into a hiking kitty. Who would have thought, at nearly age 15?
Maeve and I both love this backpack. It was a very sad day when a strap broke after 4 months of use BUT the amazing company has graciously replaced the bag at no cost!!
We have been hiking, camping and going on our daily trips to work with it! I find it very comfortable on my back while hiking with Maeve who is 9lbs! I love that it has the nice slot for my water bladder as well!
I’ll be flying with my 2 kittens across the country for the holidays. Purchased this bag after watching a bunch of reviews on the best for travel. The kittens are loving it so far and even sleep in there! There is so much space for the two of them and pockets for storage. We are still harness training but hopefully will get the hang of it soon. Thank you Your Cat Backpack!
