Measurement is done around your cat's chest. You want your cat's harness to be snug and fitted so they can't get out of it. When you take the measurement, make sure you're getting close and tight up against your cat -- down past all the floor!
If you're between sizes, go for the bigger size if your cat is still growing, or the smaller size if they are not.

I bought this for my skinny escape artist cat. Got a medium based on prior purchases- we’ve been through a few harnesses. The medium fits my giant ragdoll cat and he loves it. Getting a smaller size for the skinny guy.
This harness is well built and fits according to the fit guide. I’m secure and can go for rides, hikes and stay safe and secure the whole time! This harness wasn’t even expensive. A must have for adventure cats.
I bought too for my cats to take them out for walks and or vet trips. I got larges for my cats and they fit great! Not too tight and not too lose. I love how secure they look and feel on them. Allows for less worry’s about being outside with them. Here’s one of my cats for reference for how it fits.
My cats have been leash trained since they were kittens. As they have aged, slipping a harness over their head has become…problematic. With this harness, they step in and it Velcros closed. There is a clip to secure it and then the leash adds a third layer of protection. My cats are hairless and it’s cold outside so I haven’t tested it in challenging scenarios (ie: the unexpected things that can happen while exploring), but I have been taking them around the yard/in my apartment building. My older boy has pulled a bit and the harness seems to be secure. Neither of them have tried to wriggle out, which is my biggest concern when something scares them outside. With that being said, the cats have no issues putting them on and, with the limited experience of them wriggling, seems to be secure when they pull. My 15 lb boy uses a size medium. My 9 lb boy used a size small.
My cat is 14 lbs. He jumped straight out of the Harness.
