Tell us how you met your fur babies!
I met Oxford with his little brother. I was so taken by Ox's boldness and curiosity that I knew he was the adventure cat for me!
What was your biggest reason for getting your cat backpack?
Take Oxford out for safe walks, get him used to the outdoors, show Ox the world and explore our neighborhood.
What’s your biggest tip for getting your cat used to your cat backpack?
Leave it open with some cat treats so your fur friend has a positive association with it. Start with little walks or trips and work your way up to the big ones.
What’s Oxford's preferred method of travel in your cat backpack? Bubble? Screen? Top open?
Bubble!
Tips for hiking, biking, and general outdoor adventures with your cat?
Work your way up to longer times and know your cat's body language. Also, remember to let them out to poop or eat!
What are your tips to get your kitty feeling comfortable during car rides?
Oxford enjoys traveling in his cat backpack so I use that most of the time. The big thing is to introduce them to travel slowly and use positive reinforcement for good behavior.
What's your favorite of Oxford's odd (but endearing) behaviors?
Oxford is strangely dog-like. He loves playing fetch, going for walks and being around people!
Many of our catstomers want to leash train their cats. Can you tell us about your experience with that?
I started out with baby steps. Introducing kitten Oxford to his harness and, when he seemed comfortable with it, putting it on. I let him wear it for a while so he would get used to the feeling and then attached a leash. All done indoors before going outside, though.
Do you foster, TNR, or volunteer at animal shelters?
I had an amazing time volunteering with the kitties at the SPCA! When I was renting a place where I couldn't have animals the kitties of the SPCA were all like my pets. ♡ I always felt super fulfilled when I volunteered with them.
What do you wish people without cats knew about the joys of owning a cat?
Cats, or pets in general, can be such a positive influence in your life! They are great at cheering you up and getting you to relax. Just give a cat a chance and you'll fall in love.
What’s your biggest tip for other cat guardians?
Make sure your home is cat-friendly with places to perch, hide, toys to bite and play with and scratch posts to claw.
Any cat guardian hacks you want to share?
Automated feeders are awesome!
What's your favorite part of #yourcatbackpack?
I get to show Oxford the world we live in and have some company on walks.
